Federal Tax Credits Still Available for Energy Efficient Upgrades
If you thought you may have missed out on the opportunity to take advantage of federal energy tax credits for installing certain energy efficient upgrades, you are getting another chance.
On October 2, 2008, President Bush signed into law the "Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008". Through this legislation, consumers are eligible to receive tax credits for certain energy efficient home improvements. These improvements include window and door replacements, insulation upgrades, new heating and air conditioning systems, and non-solar water heaters. Not all products are eligible for the tax credit so check with your local supplier before purchasing any product.
With this legislation, homeowners and apartment renters may now receive up to $500 for the purchase and installation of qualified energy efficient products that are placed in service between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009. The tax credits are basically the same as those from the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
