May is National Electrical Safety Month
May is National Electrical Safety Month. New Holstein Utilities encourages everyone to increase their awareness of electric safety at their home and workplace.
Each year, electricity kills almost 400 people and injures thousands. Sadly, many of the deaths and injuries could be avoided with an increased awareness of electric safety and following safe work practices. Common occurrences with deaths and injuries are utility power line contacts with such items as construction equipment, ladders, shovels and garden tools.
New Holstein Utilities encourages customers to contact Digger's Hotline to have our electric lines located. The numbers to contact Digger's Hotline are 811 or (800) 242-8511. More information regarding Digger's Hotline can be found at their web site, www.diggershotline.com.
In addition to the deaths and injuries, electricity and unsafe electric equipment cause billions of dollars in property damage. It is estimated that unsafe electric wiring and equipment causes over 140,000 fires each year.
The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) is a non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to promoting electrical safety in homes, schools and workplaces. If you are interested in obtaining ideas for a safer home, school or workplace you are encouraged to visit the ESFI web site at www.esfi.org.
New Holstein Utilities encourages our customers to be mindful that while electricity does many good things for us, it must also be respected as it can also be dangerous. Be safe around electricity at all times! If you have any concerns or questions regarding electricity or your electric service, please contact us.
