New Incentives Available from Focus on Energy
The Department of Energy has approved a $5.4 million grant for a new Wisconsin State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program. The grant funds will assist consumers in purchasing new ENERGY STAR qualified products. The new incentives are available for products purchased after January 1, 2010.
A variety of products are eligible for the incentives. Heating and cooling equipment that are eligible include furnaces, boilers, geothermal heat pumps, central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps.
Eligible appliances include clothes washers, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators and water heaters. The incentives are only available for replacement appliances; those installed in new construction are not eligible. Old refrigerators and freezers must be recycled to be eligible for the rebates. Program approved retailers have agreed to take old appliances. New Holstein Utilities offers an appliance recycling program to assist customers in recycling old refrigerators and freezers.
Rebates are also available for the installation of solar water heating systems.
All products purchased must be program approved. This program is for residential customers only; businesses, including landlords are not eligible. Lists of pre-qualified products are available at www.focusonenergy.com.
Rebate forms can be picked up from participating retailers, downloaded from the Focus on Energy web site, or by calling 800-762-7077. The program will be in effect until February of 2012 or until funds are exhausted.
