Recycling Day Scheduled for September 28, 2011

New Holstein Utilities is offering another lamp, ballast and electronics recycling day on Wednesday, September 28, 2011. Materials are to be delivered to the New Holstein Utilities garage, located behind the Senior Center on Park Avenue, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There is a fee to dispose of your materials.

Items that will be accepted include incandescent, fluorescent, metal halide, mercury vapor, and high pressure sodium lamps. All four and eight foot fluorescent lamps must be placed in their original cartons or a box, closed, and taped shut to secure the materials during transportation. Please write the number of lamps in the cartons on the outside of the box. Please place all other types of lamps in boxes as well.

Batteries (car batteries are not accepted) containing alkaline, nickel cadmium, lead acid, mercury or lithium will be accepted for disposal/recycling. The ends of the alkaline batteries must be taped with electrical tape or they will not be accepted. This is due to federal transportation laws

Computer components accepted include CPUs, monitors, printers and keyboards. We will also accept televisions, microwaves and other electronic items as now required by state law. Effective September 1, 2010, most electronic items can no longer be deposited in landfills or disposed of via normal garbage collection. These items must be recycled.

NHU reserves the right to deny acceptance of any product that is brought to the collection site. If you have any questions, please contact the NHU office at 898-5776.
